I was just wondering what anyone else thought about this. It seems to me that with the US making nearly unilateral decisions in going to war in both Afghanistan and Iraq, because the US is the last pre-eminent superpower, has the UN been rendered powerless?
Could not most of the problems we're seeing in the world today be solved by a stronger United Nations which had the full backing of all of it's members, most especially it's founding members?
Welcome Damian Karras!
As long as the US is the main investors we won't see any changes.
The founding members are more interested in their own agenda. And theoretical the UN is a masterstroke. The best orgnaization with the best intention. But the sad truth is, reality is a beast. And governments are all about me, me and me.
And another question remains: What is a stronger UN? Most politicians or people think the UN should gain more manpower.
But I doubt this is a solution for our problems.
A change can only be possible when:
-Veto power will be abolished or changed
-New UNSC members allowed (India, Brazil, Japan, Indonesia...)
-Most of the cost will no longer be carried by the US, Japan and EU, while Russia and China give almost zero.
