In August 2006, Ben and Jerry's ice-cream introduced a new brand to their ice-cream: FAIR TRADE vanilla ice-cream!
This a step in the right direction and shows the momentum the trade justice campaign has gained by attracting a food giant like Ben and Jerry's (not to forget companies such as Walmart, Sainsbury's, Starbucks and so on).
Despite this great improvement, more must done in order to truly offer an ethical alternative to put an ease to the minds of those wanting all of their products to be fair trade.
Below is a letter that I hope you will e-mail to the appropriate individuals, and, hopefully, contact them with a posted letter to really make sure they get the message that we want a guarantee that those who produce our food receive a fair price!

Dear Sir/Madam,
I write to you today to applaud the introduction of the fair trade brand of Ben and Jerry’s vanilla ice-cream as it has opened greater choice for those choosing ethical consumerism.
However, I hope that this direction will be extended to all flavours of Ben and Jerry’s ice-cream not only to give a greater alternative to customers but also to offer a better way of life for third world farmers who rely on such initiatives to improve their standards of living for better health care, living conditions or simply the chance to send their children to school to give them a broader prospect in the field of employment.
Again, I welcome with great enthusiasm your decision to offer a fairly traded vanilla ice-cream but I urge you to take the same steps in giving ethical consumers, such as myself, the ability to buy a product and know that it is 100% dedicated to providing trade justice to the workers providing the ingredients required to make your delicious ice-cream.
Thank you for your time and I look forward to your response.
Yours faithfully,
