More than a third of a million people are thought to have fled their homes amid Jakarta's worst floods in years, caused by days of torrential rains.

While floods were said to have receded in some places, more rain is forecast.

The floods have affected much of the city of at least nine million people - with estimates of the flooded area ranging between nearly 40% and 75%.

Aust, US give aid for Indonesian flood victims

The US embassy says it will give $US100,000 ($A129,000) in emergency assistance through the Red Cross and other organisations to provide emergency supplies and items such as plastic sheets, cooking utensils and sleeping mats.

The top United Nations humanitarian official today released up to $2 million from the world body’s emergency fund to help Indonesia’s Government deal with the deadly floods that have already killed at least 50 people and displaced half a million others in the capital Jakarta and surrounding areas.
