The 2007 HIV/AIDS Awareness Forum for Women will be held May 9 in Jackson and feature several special guests from Black Entertainment Television.

The registration deadline for the forum is Tuesday. You must be 16 years of age or older to participate.

The following will join the Mississippi Department of Health HIV/STD Bureau staff members to inform the public about HIV/AIDS, its prevention, treatment and impact in the community:


LaJoyce Brookshire, author of Faith under Fire, the story of her marriage to a man who did not disclose he was infected with HIV.
Dawn Breedon, professional speaker, and the author of Remember to Breathe, the inspirational story of her struggle against adversity after learning she was HIV positive.
Lamman Rucker, actor, star of the award-winning short film dealing with HIV, Let's Talk, and known for roles in television programs including As the World Turns, All My Children, All of Us and Law and Order, and such movies as Traces, The Temptations and Brown Sugar.
Kemba Smith, community advocate, whose relationship with a drug dealer led to her imprisonment and eventual pardon by President Clinton.
Denise Stokes, a former member of President Clinton’s HIV/AIDS Advisory Council who has lived with HIV for more than 20 years.

The forum also will feature presentations from the Mississippi Urban Research Center of Jackson State University, Building Bridges Inc., AIDS educational speaker Lailah Saafir, music from Kendra Whitehead, a performance from the Lanier High School Rangerettes, and a live remote broadcast by WJMI 99.7 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event will be held at the Jackson Medical Mall’s University of Mississippi Medical Center conference center auditorium. Activities will begin at 11 a.m. and end at 4 p.m. The Jackson Medical Mall is located at 350 West Woodrow Wilson Drive, Jackson, Mississippi.
