WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Terrorists were in the final stages of planning to blow up planes heading from the United Kingdom to the United States, U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said Thursday.

The plans were "suggestive of an al Qaeda plot," he said.

British police said they had arrested 21 suspects in the plot to blow up passenger jets flying between the United Kingdom and the United States.

who might have thought that even simple things like gel, shampoo or any others liquids combined with a laptop or even an alarm clock could be used to make a bomb on a plane?? Who knows what the future might bring considering hand luggage? Maybe there won't be any hand luggage allowed except a wallet etc.?

I don't believe in the whole 9/11 crap. Why is it so hard for people to believe that there ARE terroust "out there"?

It is not hard to believe. But it is hard to believe that some radical Moslems hijack two airplanes and fly them into two monuments without any problems.

We need to put things in perspective and the media also needs to report news sensibly. There are a tremendous number of automobile accidents, and so many people die. Many of them die from preventable causes. Some automobiles are designed poorly. Some are manufactured poorly. Driving under the influence takes so many lives. These are very serious problems. Even more people die from preventable causes in US healthcare system. This is even more serious. I'm not saying that terrorism is no concern, but people are overreacting. The (main stream) media is definitely contributing.
