A powerful tsunami has stroked Indonesia again. With already 300 victims, the tsunami came without warning and destroyed parts of Java’s south coast villages. Oxfam is already sending supplies:

David Macdonald, Oxfam's Country Programme Manager for Indonesia says: "We're concerned that many people will have fled their homes, which could have been destroyed in the Tsunami. Our humanitarian team is on the ground today, and we have water and sanitation supplies in place ready to respond. The local population relies on wells for fresh water supplies, and these could have been contaminated by the wall of sea water that crashed into the coastal towns."

Mediterranean countries are facing a dangerous fate. With growing temperatures and a coming water crisis, agriculture becomes an environmental suicide:

Mediterranean countries have already experienced a reduction of up to 20 per cent of rainfall while water demand has doubled in the last 50 years. The countries experiencing the greatest growth in water demand are France, Turkey and Syria. Projections show further decreases in precipitation as well as a rise of 25 per cent consumption by 2025 in the eastern and southern shore of the Mediterranean, particularly in Egypt, Turkey and Syria.

Israel is starting WW III, North Korea shows its missile complex, Italy has won the World Cup and now the EU is going nuclear. Anybody surprised about this?

"Tony Blair is fixated with getting new nuclear power stations built," said Stephen Tindale, Greenpeace UK executive director, "and that means anything substantial in this review that supports clean green energy will be fatally undermined as long as Blair remains Prime Minister. You can't roll out new nuclear power stations and build widespread sustainable energy projects. The reality is that nuclear sucks up all the money.

dollarA new report (Real Aid 2) is out and it doesn’t look good for some people. According to ActionAid International, technical assistance is getting too much money:

"Money is being spent on consultants who are earning up to 1,000 dollars a day," Caroline Sande Mukulira, South Africa country director for ActionAid International, told IPS Wednesday.

Notes the report, "High salaries paid to expatriate advisors can also cause significant resentment among counterparts and the public in the south."

One of many reasons why there should be better and stricter controls for aid donations.

- Youth Against Poverty is a web page that got some attention on myspace.com. Enough for us to add them in our project section.

- A new review is up. A Perfect Circle is one of the more unusual bands out there. The latest (last?) album covers some impressive anti-war songs. Read the review in our review section.

Here are some movies and documentaries we would recommend you to watch. (Although they all have limited releases and they fail to bring in the masses like Superman Returns).

truthAn Inconvenient Truth is a documentary about global warming presented by former Vice President Al Gore:

Eloquently weaves the science of global warming with Al Gore’s personal history and lifelong commitment to reversing the effects of global climate change. A longtime advocate for the environment, Gore presents a wide array of facts and information in a thoughtful and compelling way. The film is not a story of despair but rather a rallying cry.
