The never ending fight of Greenpeace for a better world has achieved another victory for us:

Thanks to enormous pressure from the thousands of emails and letters sent to their European headquarters by you, our supporters, McDonald's has agreed to stop selling chicken fed on soya grown in newly deforested areas of the Amazon rainforest

Does it mean I can eat my McNuggets again? Without a guilty conscience?

And Matthew McConaughey gives his car away:

McConaughey wrote on the posting: "I admire and enjoy this car, but it's a luxury that I'm willing to relinquish at this point because I am fortunate enough to have everything I need, and the sale of it will help so many."

aidsBill Gates, the richest man in the world, is spending a $287-million donation. But not for computer software or a new X-Box console. It’s all for Aids research.

"Traditional ways of making vaccines, which have worked well against other diseases, have largely failed for HIV," said Dr. Giuseppe Pantaleo of the Vaudois University Hospital Center in Lausanne, Switzerland, one of the grantees. "Success will require bold new scientific approaches."

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has become the wealthiest foundations the world has ever seen. Put Warren Buffett’s $31 billion into the pot and you have more money anyone of us will ever.

A powerful tsunami has stroked Indonesia again. With already 300 victims, the tsunami came without warning and destroyed parts of Java’s south coast villages. Oxfam is already sending supplies:

David Macdonald, Oxfam's Country Programme Manager for Indonesia says: "We're concerned that many people will have fled their homes, which could have been destroyed in the Tsunami. Our humanitarian team is on the ground today, and we have water and sanitation supplies in place ready to respond. The local population relies on wells for fresh water supplies, and these could have been contaminated by the wall of sea water that crashed into the coastal towns."

Hollywood director Peter Jackson (The Lord of the Rings, King Kong) donated money for the Neurological Foundation of New Zealand. A foundation working in the field of stem cell research:

"We applaud anyone who seeks to advance research into neurological disorders. All developed countries face the same challenge of a growing aged population, which will see the incidence of neurological disorders increase over the coming decades. Stem cell research is one of the most promising and exciting avenues for research that could find treatment and cures. Any investment in this area will benefit us all.”

I would really like to know how much money he has spent. He is one of the most successful directors of our time. According to some rumors he has earned about 200-300 million dollars for the LotR Trilogy.

Mediterranean countries are facing a dangerous fate. With growing temperatures and a coming water crisis, agriculture becomes an environmental suicide:

Mediterranean countries have already experienced a reduction of up to 20 per cent of rainfall while water demand has doubled in the last 50 years. The countries experiencing the greatest growth in water demand are France, Turkey and Syria. Projections show further decreases in precipitation as well as a rise of 25 per cent consumption by 2025 in the eastern and southern shore of the Mediterranean, particularly in Egypt, Turkey and Syria.

Israel is starting WW III, North Korea shows its missile complex, Italy has won the World Cup and now the EU is going nuclear. Anybody surprised about this?

"Tony Blair is fixated with getting new nuclear power stations built," said Stephen Tindale, Greenpeace UK executive director, "and that means anything substantial in this review that supports clean green energy will be fatally undermined as long as Blair remains Prime Minister. You can't roll out new nuclear power stations and build widespread sustainable energy projects. The reality is that nuclear sucks up all the money.
